Explore Vancouver on a Summer RV Vacation!

Vancouver RV Parks provide an ideal mix of city meets country

Ahh summer!  After a long winter, it’s almost here!  The weather is warm, the scenery is at its spectacular best and there’s a buzz all around as you meet and exchange stories with others you meet on your travels.

Our family’s vacations always centre around an RV and, while we’ve often considered purchasing our own, for now we enjoy the freedom of  RV rentals and being able to upsize and downsize as the needs of our family change.  An RV rental also enables us to travel in style with a near new vehicle available to us each time we travel.

This summer we again plan to rent an RV – this time in Vancouver  - and our travels will take us in many directions.  Some of the “must do” attractions we’ll be checking out in Vancouver while on our RV vacation will be:

FlyOver Canada

We'll leave our RV rental at the campground and take the Skytrain downtown for this one. FlyOver Canada is the ultimate virtual multi-dimensional tour of Canada. This 4D flight simulation puts you into the heart of many of Canada's unique landscapes. From an aerial tour of Niagara Falls to the Prairies and the Arctic, you'll be amazed at the scenic diversity within Canada's vast landscapes. FlyOver Canada is located at Canada Place, an ideal base from which to explore other areas of the downtown core.

Whale Watching

A little out of town at the popular seaside village of Steveston, two companies operate whale watching tours from here.  RV Parking is available.  Spend time on the water keeping your eyes peeled for whales and other marine life as an on-board naturalist enhances your knowledge of these magnificent mammals.  The village itself is home to a myriad of shops and restaurants and is a great place to explore before or after your sea-going adventure.

Stanley Park

Stanley Park enjoys one of the world’s most breathtaking settings. Within its 1000 acres, there’s something to whet everyone’s appetite, whether it be seclusion, hiking, biking, wildlife watching or something else.  We’ll be heading to the Vancouver Aquarium, checking out the totem poles and petting some wildlife at the Children’s Farm. RV parking here is plentiful (payment required).

  Capilano Suspension Bridge

While the suspension bridge here is definitely a draw-card, with crowds gathering to take their turn to walk across it, there’s so much more to do here than “the Bridge”.   Check out the Cliffwalk – not for the faint of heart  - which takes you over cantilevered walkways, amidst rain forest vegetation, allowing unobstructed views of canyon below.  Our kids have their eyes on the Treetops Adventure – a series of seven suspension bridges attached to 250-year-old Douglas fir trees – offering a squirrel’s eye view of a thriving coastal forest. Free RV parking is available.

Granville Island

A popular spot for visitors and locals alike. Trawl the deli-style food stalls for something great to eat or just wander through the galleries at the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design.  Kids are well catered for with the Kids Market featuring stores of mostly the toy variety.  The water park is a favourite with our own kids as is kayaking on False Creek. Rental boats are available at affordable rates. RV parking is available but we’d suggest visiting Granville Island on your ‘downtown’ day and taking advantage of the great public transport available.  How about taking a sea taxi there?

Granville Island, Vancouver

Campgrounds in the greater Vancouver area provide an ideal mix of country and city – you’re close enough to the city to visit its numerous attractions , yet far enough away to experience the camping lifestyle. If you’re thinking of visiting Vancouver this Summer, an RV vacation close to the city might be just what you are looking for.
